$
How to use it
- Enter the current gold price.
- Enter your lot size.
- Choose your account leverage.
- Read the contract value, the required margin, and the ounces and grams.
The formula
Contract value = price × 100 oz × lots
Required margin = contract value ÷ leverage
Weight: 1 troy oz = 31.1035 g
Worked example
1 lot at 4,150.00 is 100 oz worth $415,000.
At 1:100 leverage the margin is $415,000 ÷ 100 = $4,150.
100 troy ounces is about 3.11 kg of gold.
Good to know
- Brokers often set a lower maximum leverage on gold than on forex, and many raise margin before major news or over weekends. Your broker’s figure is the one that counts.
- Margin is not the risk. It is the deposit the broker holds; the loss is set by your stop and your lot size.
